Daylight savings means an extra hour of ambiance in the TV room, as far as I’m concerned.
As a reminder for anyone near the Delmarva peninsula, I’ll be attending the Rehoboth Beach International Film Festival this upcoming weekend as a member of the artistic committee and a film industry panelist. The networking and the parties are fun of course, but more than anything volunteering with the festival gives me the opportunity to stay on top of the important new voices in film on behalf of our patrons.
Here are some highlights from our November theme shelves:
Native American Heritage Month:
Leading off our Native American Heritage Month shelf, this film documents Canada's Haida people as they struggle to retain their cultural and economic sovereignty.
Fall Travel:
Our Fall Travel shelf will continue for one more month – Go Gently is a new series that follows hosts Bonnie Wright and Pattie Gonia as they embark on a journey of discovery from Los Angeles to Portland, learning how communities along the route are inspiring eco-friendly practices to the way we eat, shop, and travel.
Trans Awareness Week (11/13 - 11/19):
And for Trans Awareness Week, we have the 2021 documentary The Right Girls – fleeing abuse and discrimination, three transgender women journey from Mexico to the United States to find better lives.
Film of the Month:
Our film of the month for November is from the Native American Heritage Month collection:
This environmental documentary was a festival darling upon release - it follows five Native American communities as they restore their traditional land management practices in the face of a changing climate.
As always, you can expect to see each of these titles, and more, appear right here on the biblio+ homepage
