Everyone has their own unique summer viewing habits: you either have no time at all, want to watch something light between various trips and the chaos of scheduling, or you finally have time to sit and watch those movies or series you’ve been meaning to watch.
So with CloudLibrary Video I try to provide a little bit for any scenario – bingeable BBC mysteries alongside fun romances and serious documentaries alike.
And the intention is to also apply this mix to our monthly themes and holiday shelves - for June, we’ll have:
Pride Month:
Barbara
Barbara is an old drag queen who steals a valuable briefcase from the cabaret where he works and escapes to the plains where he meets Sixto, a young farmer on the run from drug lords.
Indigenous History Month (CA):
Gather
A documentary about indigenous peoples on the front lines of a growing movement reconnect with spiritual and cultural identities that were devastated by genocide.
Father's Day (6/15):
Our selection of Father’s Day titles will go live for the second weekend in June:
A Father’s Legacy
Starring Tobin Bell - after years of searching for his father, a young man, on the run from the law, finds his way into the life of a secluded old man in the woods. As the days go by and secrets about their past are revealed, they realize they may not have been looking for each other but they were brought together for a reason.
Juneteenth (6/19)
And then for Juneteenth we’ll lead with an inspiring documentary:
Breaking Three Hours: Trailblazing African American Women Marathoners
Of 14 million marathon finishers, only 20 were American-born, African American women who finished in under three hours. This documentary is about nine sub-three-hour women, National Black Distance Running Hall of Fame inductees.
Film of the Month:
The Film of the Month for June, available with public performance rights, is from our Pride Month shelf:
With Wonder
Born out of Director Sharon Lewis’s own muted struggle with not fitting into neat racial/Queer/Christian boxes, With Wonder takes an intimate look at the journey of members of Queer, Christian communities of color and their attempts to answer the question: Can you be both Christian and Queer?
As always, you can expect to see each of these titles, and more, appear right here on the biblio+ homepage
