It’s officially Spring, and it’s officially been a year since the OCLC acquisition of CloudLibrary.

Which means we’re back up to full speed again with our rotation of programming – as shown by the success of our Film of the Month selection that we started last month, which will now be a permanent fixture of these newsletters going forward.

Our themes this month are:

 Arab Heritage Month:

perfect candidate.jpgThe Perfect Candidate

From award winning Saudi director Haifaa al-Mansour, a determined young doctor runs for city council after the incumbent repeatedly ignores her request to fix the muddy road leading to her clinic. Despite the community's struggle to accept her as the town's first female candidate, her creative and ambitious campaign becomes a symbol for a larger movement.

Spring Travel:

Our Spring Travel selection will go up and last through the season, kicking off with:

 travel thru history.jpgTravel Thru History

This Emmy nominated travel series explores diverse cities and historical sites around the world.

Earth Day (4/22):

For Earth Day we’ve curated a selection of topical documentaries, from the big environmental picture to the small interpersonal moments of conservation and care:

seeds of vandana shiva.jpgThe Seeds of Vandana Shiva

Documentary on the Gandhian environmentalist and food justice activist Dr Vandana Shiva, following as she takes on powerful corporations that pollute and degrade the environment.

Film of the Month:

The Film of the Month this month, available with public performance rights, comes from our Arab American Heritage collection:

 soufra.jpgSoufra

This 2017 documentary was filmed in a Palestinian refugee camp south of Beirut, the world’s oldest, where Mariam has lived her whole life, and follows her struggle in uniting the female community with a business venture.
