As the weather starts to stabilize a bit hopefully our patrons will find some time for movie nights, since our May is packed with themed shelves:

Asian Heritage Month:
The story of the Asahi baseball team in Vancouver, a legendary baseball team from 1914-1941, but after Canada declared war against Japan, members of the team were sent to internment camps and the team disbanded.
Mental Health Awareness Month:
In this coming of age documentary, four friends on the Autism spectrum whom have bonded through humor and performed as the comedy troupe "Asperger's Are Us" will prepare for one final, ambitious show before going their separate ways.
Mother’s Day:
Based on the classic book, Elnora Comstock and her mother care for their farm very much – until an unexpected tax comes due and their crop is ruined, and the two of them must learn to understand each other or lose everything.
Film of the Month:
Our film of the month for May comes from our mental health collection:
Racing Thoughts
A documentary following four young people living with mental illness as they make the courageous decision to open up about their stories. Their voices are complemented by that of the director, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder as an adult but whose initial symptoms emerged in childhood.
