Our Editorial Policy Committee (EPC) wrapped up their virtual Meeting 146A with the end of January, having considered seven change proposals.
Five of the seven were approved, and the changes are live in WebDewey. See the new class 394.2467 Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos), for example. Other live improvements include clearer instructions for collections of literature and use of T1--011 Systems.
One of the other exhibits was approved, but we're still working on preparing the actual changes behind the scenes: EPC 146A-S78.1 Music and Texts. The committee had some tweaks for that one, and it looks like it will also require an update to one of the beloved flowcharts found in the DDC Manual, I believe for at least the first time since the introduction of the current edition, in 2011. I expect to have those changes live in WebDewey in March.
Finally, one exhibit was returned back for further work: EPC 146A-S29.1 Indexing and religious groups. I think the core argument of that exhibit--that building from 200.89 is the best way to show comprehensive works on an ethnic or national group and religion--is still true, but I understood the committee's feedback that the solution presented, which relied heavily on the Relative Index, could be confusing. Expect to see that reworked for this year's annual meeting.
Speaking of which, work is already underway on proposals for EPC 147! Stay tuned here, and let me know if there's anything you'd like to propose.
