The DDC Editorial Policy Committee (EPC) will next convene virtually for their annual Meeting 146, 22-23 July. All of the proposals they'll be reviewing our now available for review at our Google Drive page:
Note that EPC 146-T6.1 lays out principles for respectful terminology for individual Indigenous groups, many of whom are currently labeled by names given by outsiders instead of the names they use for themselves. The exhibit proposes a framework for review of such names, but does not have a list of proposed changes, since a one-size-fits-all approach is not appropriate. EPC 146-T6.2 is the first such change proposal proper, proposing updating of "Micmac" to "Mi'kmaq".
At their meeting, EPC will discuss and vote on these proposals. If you have feedback, we welcome comments here, via email, or directly to EPC members. While we'll always do our best to accommodate later comments, it's best to make your voice heard before the first day of the meeting, 22 July.
If you'd like to propose a change for EPC's future consideration, just check the DDC contributors page at oc.lc/DeweyContributors to get started. I hope to hear from you!
