Meeting 147 of our Editorial Policy Committee (EPC) concluded in July, and the changes discussed there are mostly all live in WebDewey.
The exceptions? EPC 147-S00.1 006.3 Artificial intelligence was sent back, less because the committee wanted a different approach and more because they just wanted more for this hot topic. In the meantime, you can keep using 006.3 Artificial intelligence and natural computing with confidence, and build with that number and T1—0285 Computer applications to express AI in relation to just about any topic. There are already about a dozen such built numbers in WebDewey, for AI and topics like plant diseases, personnel management, and art.
And while EPC 147-S30.1 Ethnic and national groups: interdisciplinary numbers was approved, adding the clarified indexing it lays out will be an ongoing effort. In some cases, we’ll make those changes in tandem with others, such as updating names for specific Indigenous peoples.
We’ve already started some work on proposals for electronic Meeting 147A, likely to be held in January! Please get in touch if you’d like to propose something for it, or to let us know what you want to see in a revised AI exhibit.
