As part of a long-term effort to ensure the sustainability of the cataloging ecosystem and preserve the accuracy of WorldCat® holdings information, OCLC and EBSCO are working together to streamline e-book record delivery in ways that support the future of library metadata management.
Beginning 23 June 2025, changes to the way you receive records for EBSCO eBooks will take effect. Rest assured you will still receive records for your collection, and if your library has an OCLC cataloging subscription, you will maintain the ability to set holdings in WorldCat. Find your subscription type in the list below for more detailed information.
Going forward, you can expect to see both a mix of full and less-than-full records. EBSCO and OCLC will continue to provide quality WorldCat records to OCLC cataloging subscribers, but OCLC will no longer ensure that all records contain the presence of LC call numbers, Dewey call numbers, and LC subject headings in all records delivered.
If you currently have holdings set for the EBSCO eBook records that you purchase, you will continue to have those holdings set. EBSCO will continue to provide this information to OCLC and we will continue to make sure that we identify those items that your library holds.
Yes, as a CatExpress Cataloging subscriber, you now have two options for getting records for your EBSCO eBooks:
Explore your options on EBSCO Connect based on your current EBSCO holdings, this includes Rapid MARC Record Delivery via ECM and Mosaic, as well as MARC Record services via GOBI Library Solutions
If you have been retrieving records from other publishers through Collection Manager, those records are still available to you. This change is only affecting the delivery of EBSCO eBook records.
Any library with a full OCLC Cataloging and Metadata Subscription, including WorldShare Management Services libraries, will continue to be able to use the EBSCO automatic holdings feed as they do today. The only difference, as described above, is that any library using this feed for record delivery will notice that some records might not be full records at time of delivery.
CatExpress libraries will be able to use the EBSCO automatic holdings feed for holdings registration and record delivery, as they do today, but any records delivered will count against their record limit.
Small Library Edition and Holdings Registration libraries will be able to use the EBSCO automatic holdings feed as they do today (for holdings registration only).
